LONGMEADOW – George T. Klotsas, 88, of Longmeadow, passed away after a short illness on April 12, 2014 at Mercy Hospital.  He was born in Pentagee, Greece.  He was the son of Theodore and Eleni (Tsioris) Klotsas, of Greece, and emigrated to the United States in 1951.  He lived in Longmeadow since 1967.Following his graduation from the 7th Boys High School of Athens; he was awarded a full scholarship to attend the City University of New York City, where he earned a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering.  Later, he earned his Master’s degree in structural Engineering from Northeastern University. During his career he structurally designed numerous highway bridges, schools, dormitories and office building in Massachusetts, including locally the Springfield Central High School, the West Springfield Accelerated Middle School and the Greek Orthodox Church of St. Luke in East Longmeadow. He was employed by Jersey Testing Labs, Hayden & Harding Engineers in Boston, and Munson & Mallis in Springfield and became a partner of Alderman & MacNeish Architects and Engineers in West Springfield, until his retirement in 1995.  He was a qualified nuclear shelter analyst for the Department of Defense and was registered professional engineer in New York and all the New England states. He served on the Board of Directors of St. George Cathedral, of Springfield, and was chairman of the Building Fund.  He was a member of the local Chapter of the Order of AHEPA and served as president of the local chapter and was elected as the District 8 Governor.  He also served in the Greek Army fighting against the Greek Communist revolution from 1948-1950.He and his wife were one of the twelve couples that founded the Greek Orthodox Church of St. Luke in East Longmeadow, MA. He is predeceased by his beloved wife of 50 years, Evangeline Biakis.  He leaves his daughter Eleni Bazos and her husband Christopher and his son Theodore Klotsas.  He also leaves two grandchildren,  Dr. Andrea Bazos Fallon and her husband Matthew of Westfield and Michael Bazos and his wife Talia from Fairfield, CT, two great grandchildren Evangeline Fallon and Colin Fallon, two sisters, Kaliope Mead of California, and Vasiliki Papadias of Maroussi, Greece, nieces and nephews in the United States and abroad. The funeral services will be held on Thursday April 17, 2014 at 10:30 at the St. Luke Greek Orthodox Church, 400 Prospect Street, East Longmeadow, MA with burial at Oak Grove Cemetery, Springfield, MA.  Family and friends are invited to calling hours on Wednesday from 4-7 PM at Forastiere-Smith Funeral Home, 220 North Main Street, East Longmeadow, MA.  Memorial contributions may be made to the Greek Orthodox Church of St. Luke, 400 Prospect Street, East Longmeadow, MA 01028. www.forastierefuneralhome.com
