October 19, 1961 ~ July 18, 2014 (age 52) 52 Years Old
It is with deep sadness to announce the passing of Mark A. Schmidt of Agawam. Mark, 52, was the son of the late Thomas and Sally Schmidt of Southwick. He leaves behind his brother Thomas Schmidt and wife Linda along with their three children; Michael Schmidt, Mark’s godson along with his wife Jennifer of Belchertown, Kevin Mattson and his wife Jennifer of Southwick and Jamie Lemmens and her husband Chad of Wausau, ; sister Ginger Borgatti and her husband James who was Mark’s Cribbage partner and their daughter Jennifer Castonguay and her husband Daniel, who took Mark on a memorable motorcycle ride which is a day the Daniel will never forget and  their three children Ashleigh Croteau, Tyler Castonguay, Mark’s godson and Travis Castonguay, his little buddy; Pamela Borgatti and her two children Sally who is Mark’s goddaughter and Landin Gardner. Mark will be greatly missed by his family and friends. He also leaves special Aunt Rosemary and Uncle Al Gladding of Blandford and Uncle Rick Gladding of Florida. Mark also leaves his Foxwoods partner Steve Sassi of Westfield, who took great care of Mark during his cancer treatments. We would also like to thank Barb and Kenney Whitehead for everything, especially our trip to Dana Farber. Mark’s sister, Ginger, was by Mark’s side throughout his journey. Mark fought 4 different cancers and many chemo-treatments and was my hero. Mark will be forever in our hearts.  The Schmidt Family would like to thank Dr. Robert Byrne and Dr. Ali for all of their compassion. Special thanks to the nurses on the oncology unit at Baystate Medical Center and the D’Amour Cancer Center. Mark also leaves his cats Buddy and Holly. Memorial services will be held at the Colonial Forastiere Funeral Home, 985 Main Street, Agawam on Thursday, July 24th from 4:00-7:00pm followed by a service at the funeral home at 7:00pm. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Westfield Homeless Cat Project, 1124 East Mountain Road, Westfield, MA 01085.
