Anne Therese Lovechio Leahy, 85, of Longmeadow and East Harwich, MA, beloved wife of the late John Joseph “Jack” Leahy, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Monday, April 24, 2017. Born in Springfield, MA on August 14, 1931, she was the daughter of the late Vito and Angelina Lovechio. Anne grew up in Springfield, graduated from Commerce High School and earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology and Sociology from AIC. After college, she worked in the Psychology Department at the University of Connecticut.
For many years she worked as a Legal Secretary for a Springfield law firm. While raising her children, Anne was also active with the Springfield School Volunteers.
Following her retirement to Cape Cod, she volunteered her time at the Brooks Free Library in Harwich.  Anne loved travel, theater, reading, and especially the beach. She made a hobby out of dining out and was a fierce and loyal Red Sox fan. Her priority was always her family and she cherished her time with her sister, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Her close friendship with her sister, Maria, was a sustaining joy throughout her life. Anne will be deeply missed by her family and friends.
She is survived by her son, James J. Leahy and his wife Cindy of East Harwich; her 4 daughters, Maria DuPuis of Springfield, Elizabeth Walsh and her husband Dan of Springfield, Jennifer Mulcahy and her husband Robert of Longmeadow, Paula Welch and her husband William of Longmeadow; and 11 grandchildren; Shannon, Lyndsey, Michael, Nicholas, Angelina, Daniel, Sarah, Catherine, William (“Liam”), Benjamin, and Vivian; 4 great-grandchildren, Gabriella, Arianna, Scarlett, and Harper; her beloved sister, Maria Mazzaferro; and many nieces and nephews. Besides her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her brother, Vito Lovechio, Jr.
Her family will receive friends on Thursday, April 27th from 4-7 PM at the Forastiere Smith Funeral Home, 220 North Main St., East Longmeadow. Her Funeral will begin on Friday, April 28th at 8:45 AM from the funeral home, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10 AM at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, Springfield. Burial will follow in St. Michael’s Cemetery.
