LONGMEADOW – Anthony F. Maruca, 94, passed away on September 19, 2017 at his home. Born in Springfield, MA on April 27, 1923 to the late Francesco and Maria (Lucia) Maruca, he graduated from Springfield Trade School in 1941. He served in the United States Army during World War II. He was employed as a Forman at the Springfield Armory for 27 years before becoming the Superintendent for 20 years of St. Michael’s Cemetery and Gate of Heaven Cemetery, retiring in 1987. After retirement, he worked as a General Manager for Visual Changes, Inc., East Longmeadow. As a faithful communicant of St. Mary’s Parish in Longmeadow, Tony was very active within the church. Predeceased by his loving wife of 61 years, Dorothy E. (Webster) Maruca, who passed away on May 14, 2011; brother Santo Maruca and sister Virginia Maruca, Tony leaves his sister-in-law Rose Maruca of East Longmeadow; many nieces and nephews including Mark Maruca, Annmarie Basile, Kenneth Denton and Arthur Denton; great nephew Dustin Maruca; great great nephew Drayke Palazzi as well as his granddaughter Natalie Kilrain. Family and friends are invited to gather on Friday, September 22, 2017 from 6-8 PM at the Forastiere Smith Funeral Home, 220 North Main Street, East Longmeadow, MA. Funeral services will be on Saturday, September 23, 2017 beginning at 8:45 AM at the funeral home followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10 AM at St. Mary’s Parish, 519 Longmeadow St. Longmeadow, MA. Burial will be in St. Michael’s Cemetery. Memorial contributions in Tony’s name may be made to St. Mary’s Parish.
