Obituary

Betty Thompson Krill (71), of Longmeadow MA, passed away unexpectedly on March 27, 2024. Betty was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She was born in Philadelphia, PA and attended Bloomsburg University where she met her husband, Gary Michael Krill. Together they moved to Longmeadow, MA and built their family. Betty had a joyful career as an early childhood educator at ABC Nursery School in Longmeadow, and later moved into educational sales, working for Houghton Mifflin Harcourt until her retirement in 2015. She loved gardening, and learning new things, and went back to college in her retirement to study medical coding. Betty was a true lifelong learner. What brought her the most joy was time with her family, including her four children and six grandchildren. She was the happiest reading and telling stories to Harper, Kiana, Sammy, Henry, Aryana, and Adeline. No place was as safe and special as snuggled next to Grammy Betty reading a good book. Betty was also a devoted and faithful member of her church. She used her gift of hospitality to run the church coffee hour and ensure it was a place of welcome to all who needed belonging and encouragement. She was also the director of her church library, thoughtfully organizing it to share the gospel and encourage others through access to meaningful books about Christianity. Her laughter was infectious, her presence a steady anchor for so many through life’s joys and sorrows. Her life was a blessing to all she encountered, and she will be dearly missed. She is survived by her three siblings, Joanne Rauchfuss, Robert Thompson, and Lynne Hill, and her four children, Gregory, Andrew, Sarah, and Elisabeth, and her six beloved grandchildren. She is predeceased by her husband, Gary, and her parents Anne and Joseph Thompson. A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held on April 13th at 3PM at the Evangelical Covenant Church in Springfield, MA. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Evangelical Covenant Church library.
