Dudley N Lathrop

Somers – Dudley Noyes Lathrop, 92, passed away on May 24, 2017 at the Atrium in Agawam. He was born in Norwich, CT, the son of the late Burrill D. and Freda (Noyes) Lathrop. Dudley graduated from Norwich Free Academy in 1943 and went on to further his education at the University of Connecticut graduating with his Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering. He proudly served in the U. S. Army Air Corps and was a Bombardier/Navigator for the 8th Air Force during WWII where he flew 35 missions over the European Theater. He was an engineer for Carando Foods in Springfield for 30 years and retired in 1997. He was a Past Worshipful Master Mason for the Somerset Lodge in Norwich, CT. Dudley was a hardworking, patriotic person with great leadership qualities that gave him the nickname “The General”. He will be greatly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him. In addition to his parents Dudley was predeceased by his wife, Amie (Ballou) Lathrop, and his sister, Elizabeth Blake. He leaves his wife of 5 years, Corinne (Bresnahan) Lathrop; his son Bruce Lathrop and his wife Elaine of Feeding Hills, MA; his daughter, Amylee Picone of Ellington, CT; his step daughters, Erin Biela-Bissonnette, and Heather Kies and her husband Michael all of Chicopee; his 9 grandchildren, Bruce Jr. and his wife Sandra, Jonathan, Emily, Justin and his wife Grace, Jocelyn and her husband Stephen, Caroline, Liam, Adam, and Jadin; 11 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great grandchildren; a brother-in-law, Thomas M. Blake; nephews, Thomas, William and Robert Blake; and a niece, Elizabeth Salter. Family and friends are invited to attend visiting hours on Tuesday, May 30th from 4-8PM. Dudley’s funeral service will be held on Wednesday, May 31st at 10AM in Colonial Forastiere Funeral Home, 985 Main St., Agawam. Burial will follow in Somers Center Cemetery.
