Holyoke, MA - Jacqueline Anita (Salvail) Young, age 90, passed away peacefully on February 11, 2017, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on April 18, 1926, in Chicopee, MA, daughter of the late Edmund P. and Delvina (Charron) Salvail. She was pre-deceased by her husband, Morris Albert Young, her daughter, Patricia Louise Young, her brother, Ferdinand Salvail, and her sisters Corrine Rousseau and Lillian Farant.
Jacqueline, known to family and friends as Jackie, was married to her husband Morris (Moe) for 57 years. Jackie and Moe raised a family of five children in Longmeadow, Massachusetts, where they resided for twenty-two years until their retirement in 1985 to Fort Myers, FL.
Jackie was a former CCD teacher at St. Mary’s Church in Longmeadow, where the family worshipped for many years and where she and Moe renewed their vows on their 50th wedding anniversary. She was also a Brownie troop leader in Longmeadow, and a lifelong fan of the Boston Red Sox. Jackie had a beautiful voice and loved to sing, having sung with the USO during WWII and in later years with her church choir in Fort Myers.
Jackie and Moe enjoyed spending time with their family and many friends. They loved square dancing and were avid campers. They began their early retirement by traveling across the U.S. visiting 49 states and Mexico before returning to Fort Myers, where Jackie lived until her return to Western Massachusetts in 2012.
She will be missed by her five children, Karen Amedeo and her husband Joseph of Springfield, David Young of Jacksonville, FL, Maureen Young of Westminster, VT, Barbara Young and her husband Douglas Berg of Milford, PA, Beverly Paige and her husband David Rosinski of Springfield, 11 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, and several much loved nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Friday February 24, 2017, 12:00 noon at the Colonial Forastiere Funeral Home, 985 Main St. Agawam, followed by a ceremony at the Massachusetts Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery, 1390 Main St., Agawam. Visiting hours will precede the service from 10:00 AM until noon. Memorial contributions may be made in Jackie’s name to the Mount Saint Vincent Employee Activity Fund, 35 Holy Family Road, Holyoke, MA 01040 or, as a former breast cancer survivor, to the Susan G.
