James Farrell

October 5, 1938 ~ March 8, 2024 (age 85) 85 Years Old

Obituary

James F. Farrell (Jim), 85, passed away peacefully on Friday March 8, 2024, with his wife Dolores and his eldest son James by his side. Jim was born and raised in Brooklyn NY, and he remained a true New Yorker throughout his life. It was in Brooklyn where he met the love of his life, his wife Dolores (nee Ryan) when he was 17 years old. Jim and Dolores married in 1962 and moved to Pittsburgh PA where Jim attended Duquesne University and graduated in 1963. They relocated back to Brooklyn after college to grow their family. Jim and his family relocated to Longmeadow, MA in 1969 where they raised their children, and he ran his business “James F. Farrell CPA “ until the early 2010’s.
Jim was a sport enthusiast and avid runner having run many road races and marathons over the years, including the 1988 Dublin Millennium Marathon and the Marine Corps Marathon twice. Jim ran his last marathon at age 70. He was a member of the Springfield YMCA for many years and served on the Y’s board.
Jim was a quiet man with a passion for art, drawing and painting and a love for books and reading. He deeply loved his family. But he found his greatest joy in the time he spent with his grandchildren, attending their sports games, dance recitals, family vacations, school graduations and just enjoying being in their presence. Jim valued the “little moments” in life. He will be missed forever.
Jim was predeceased by his brother Joseph Farrell and his sister Mary Farrell, both of Brooklyn, NY.
He is survived by his loving wife Dolores, his daughter Maureen Farrell (Alan Kenny) of Montclair NJ, and sons James Farrell (Laura) of Wilbraham MA, Michael Farrell of Alexandria VA and Peter Farrell (Lily) of Santa Clarita CA, his 10 grandchildren and his brothers John Farrell and Wally Farrell (Maryann) of Brooklyn NY.
