SPRINGFIELD – Nicholas Anthony Luvera, 65, passed away on January 9, 2018 at Baystate Medical Center with his family by his side. A lifelong resident of Springfield, he was born on January 31, 1952 to the late Anthony and Mary Luvera. He was a 1970 graduate of the former Technical High School. He was a United States Coast Guard Veteran serving in the Vietnam War. For 37 years, he held a variety of positions at the United Postal Service Bulk Mail Center in Indian Orchard. During that time he made many lifelong friends and brightened the atmosphere on a daily basis. Nicholas enjoyed horse racing, was an avid sports fan and cooking big meals for his family. His family and friends will fondly remember him as a big jokester, a storyteller and the life of the party. To cherish his memory, Nicholas leaves his loving wife Charmaine (Cardinal) Luvera of Springfield, his sons Anthony Luvera and his wife Cortney of Oklahoma City, OK and Joseph “Chips” Luvera of Springfield; his daughter Nicole Gottschlicht and her husband Patrick of Longmeadow; seven adored grandchildren Ava, Maddux, Emilie, Ryker, Nicholas, Camden and Audrey; sisters Lisa Wawrzyk and her husband Jerry and Nancy Luvera; nephews Zack Wawrzyk and Dwayne Luvera and close friends Frank and Bobby D’Agostino. Family and friends are invited to gather on Monday, January 15, 2018 from 4-8 PM at Forastiere Funeral Home 45 Locust Street, Springfield. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, January 16, 2018 beginning at 9:30 AM from the funeral home followed by burial with military honors at 11 AM at the Massachusetts Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Shriners’ Hospital for Children 516 Carew Street Springfield, MA 01104.
