Timothy Victor Cotz

January 26, 1952 ~ December 12, 2017 (age 65) 65 Years Old

Longmeadow - Timothy Victor Cotz, 65, passed away on December 12th, 2017, as a result of ALS. He fought the disease with grace and dignity, and passed surrounded by his loved ones. Tim is survived by his beloved husband and partner for 35 years, Kenneth Moffett, his sister Missy Dziczek, brother George, nephews Christian and Nicholas Cotz, Joe and Ben Dziczek, nieces Kelly Drogue and Paris Cotz, his dear friends MaryAnn Haley, Pat Timm, John McKemmie, Norma Vinick, Bill Burrows, and his sister-in-law Jo Ann Levine. He was a beloved brother-in-law to Joe and Julian, a favorite Great Uncle to Ava, Richard, Aria, and Timothy, and a trusted advisor and confidant to Scott, Emily, Hannah, and Amy.  He took great care of his parents whom he loved dearly, and officiated multiple weddings for his niece, nephews, and many other dear friends. Tim was born and raised in Allendale, NJ. He graduated from Hartwick College, and he received his Masters in Health Care Administration from George Washington University.  Tim spent his life making life better for others.  His first job was as the Asst. Director of the National Lutheran Home in Rockville, MD, followed by the Director of the Holyoke Geriatric Authority.  In 1993 Tim became the Director of Chestnut Knoll at Glenmeadow and facilitated the institution’s move to Longmeadow.  In 2010 Tim became the first President and CEO of Glenmeadow Retirement Community and remained so until his retirement in October of 2016. His love for his job was reflected best by the love of the residents of Glenmeadow for him, and his commitment to his work was an inspiration to not only his co-workers and those he mentored, but to his family and peers as well.  Tim, along with his husband Ken, were lovers of the arts and the theater in particular. Together they traveled the world and made regular trips to New York and the Berkshires to enjoy the theater.  He loved the beaches, people watching, fine dining in St Bart's, and enjoyed cruises around the world, including a transatlantic crossing on the Queen Mary II. He was an active and important member of the St. Paul’s parish.  Tim believed strongly in public service, and served on the Board of Directors for both The Community Music School and Girls, Inc. of Holyoke.  Quick-witted, easy to talk to, gracious, generous, accepting and forgiving, Tim will be missed by all who knew and loved him.  In his last act of generosity and commitment to helping others, Tim donated his organs and body to be studied by the ALS Study Center at Mass General. A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, December 16th at 2:00pm at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 485 Appleton Street, Holyoke. In lieu of flowers, donations in Timothy’s memory can be made out to Girls Inc. of Holyoke, P.O. Box 6812, Holyoke, MA. 01041. Arrangements are entrusted to Forastiere Smith Funeral Home, East Longmeadow.
