Obituary

Amelia Hartford, 102, of East Longmeadow MA, beloved wife of the late Raymond Hartford, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 10th 2021.  Born in Springfield, MA on March 8, 1918, she was the daughter of the late Salvatore and Jennie (Esposito) Carabetta.  Amelia enjoyed sewing, taking care of her home and cooking for her grandchildren.  She was a longtime communicant of St. Michael's Church in East Longmeadow and donated her time and amazing talent to sewing baptismal robes, altar linens, and custom tailored items for the rectory and the parish.  Amelia spent 42 years sewing for Kinsler Coat Company, and made her career as a talented seamstress. She is survived by her one daughter, Maryann Dasilva of Springfield MA, and her husband Julio.  She is also survived by her brother and sister-in -law, Joseph and Nancy Carbetta of East Longmeadow, 3 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren, and her dear friend, Kathy Sheehan.  Special thanks to her niece Janet Kelly, who was her caretaker and advocate.  A graveside service will be held on Friday, January 15th at 12 noon at St. Michael's Cemetery, Springfield MA.  Due to COVID, a memorial Mass in honor and celebration of Amelia's life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to: St. Jude's Research Children's Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
