Amherst- Aura Esther Mercer 76, died July 22, 2022 suddenly at Baystate Medical Center, Springfield.
Born on May 12, 1946 in La Romana, Dominican Republic she was a daughter of the late Jabez Reginald Mercer and Inges Lucille (Wheatley) Mercer. Aura was an Amherst resident for over 50 years. A graduate of U MASS Amherst, Aura received her Master’s Degree in Education Antioch University New England, in Keene, NH. Aura was a Bilingual Clinical Licensed Social Worker, employed at the Clinical and Support Options Inc., Florence, MA.
Aura is survived by two brothers, Roberto Mercer and Alfonso Mercer; three sisters, Dora Mercer Rijo, Iris Mercer, Celeste Mercer; many nieces , nephews, great nieces, great nephews, great great nieces , nephews , extended family in Brooklyn , NY, New Jersey, Puerto Rico, Atlanta, and Pennsylvania.
Funeral services will be held Thursday July 28,2022
At 1:00PM at the Jewish Community of Amherst, 742 Main St., Amherst. Rabbi Ben Weiner officiant. Burial will take place at Cementerio Romana Calle, Duarte, Dominican, Republic.
