Obituary

Carol Ann (Moore) Evans of Enfield, Connecticut passed away quietly in her sleep at home Friday morning May 15, 2020 after a long illness. Born in Everett, Massachusetts, she was the daughter of the late P. Frank Moore and Dorothy L. (Reid) Moore both formerly of Chelsea. Carol graduated with an R.N. from St. Margaret Hospital School of Nursing in Boston and received her B.S. in clinical psychology from Springfield College. She was a clinical nurse manager at the Inpatient Psychiatric Unit at Baystate Medical Center from 1977 to 1995. After retiring, she was a volunteer CCD teacher in Springfield and Longmeadow and a teaching volunteer in reading for middle school students in East Longmeadow. She was also a volunteer guide at the Forest Park Zoo in Springfield. Earlier in her career, she traveled to the West Indies with her husband and children under the auspices of the Catholic Medical Missions, where she volunteered her medical expertise at the Alpha Orphanage and School for Boys in Kingston, Jamaica. She enjoyed many summers and holidays with her family at the Cape. Back home, she loved observing the wildlife outside her windows, particularly her beloved birds that often greeted her in the mornings. Carol was a long-time communicant of St. Mary’s Church in Longmeadow. Raised in the Boston area, she lived most of her life in Springfield and Longmeadow, Massachusetts, and most recently in Enfield, Connecticut. She was predeceased by her husband, Dr. William T. Evans of Longmeadow, and her sisters Dorothy (Moore) Brolin of North Hampton, New Hampshire and Patricia (Moore) Deveraux of Chelsea. She will be forever loved by her two sons Dr. Mark W. Evans (Carol) of Longmeadow and Jeff Evans of South Burlington, Vermont and New York City. She leaves behind her sister Janice Moore (Frank Resca) of Malden and her four beloved grandchildren: Tyler Reilly-Evans of New York City, Brandon Reilly-Evans (Nicole) of Mine Hill, New Jersey, Kaelin Reilly-Evans of Longmeadow and Brenna Reilly-Evans of Boston. She also leaves behind six nephews and nieces. The family would like to thank her home hospice team, including her nurse Robin, and home health aides, especially Stacy, Linda, Lisa, Susan, Trish and Zulma. There will be no calling hours and funeral arrangements will be private and entrusted to Forastiere Smith Family Funeral Home, 220 North Main St., East Longmeadow. A celebration of Carol's life will be held at a future date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Trinity Health of New England at Home, the Alzheimer’s Association, or the ASPCA.
