Cynthia Phyllis Shirley

Cynthia “Phyllis” (Bradshaw) Shirley, age 91 passed away June 27, 2020.  Phyllis was born in Medford, MA to Robert Allan and Geraldine (Gray) Bradshaw. She grew up in Ogunquit, Maine, and graduated from Wells High School. Phyllis always treasured her memories of Perkin's Cove and the Marginal Way.  She graduated from New England Deaconess Hospital School of Nursing in 1951, where she cared for her future mother-in-law, Hazel Shirley. She was married to James G. Shirley, Jr, for 54 years, until his passing in 2006.  They are survived by their children, Carol Woodruff (Gary) of Long Beach, CA and Baja, MX, James G. Shirley, III, Of Vero Beach, FL and East Otis, MA, and David Shirley of Enfield, CT.
Phyllis was a well respected RN at Wesson Memorial Hospital, then Baystate Medical Center, retiring in 1991. She was said to be one of the last nurses to wear a hat, calling it her “thinking cap”. She enjoyed her time and friends in Rye Beach, NH in the summer and Vero Beach, FL in the winter.  Phyllis was deeply religious, with a servant heart, believing we all needed to look after and care for one another. Many a neighbor had kind words for Phyllis's nursing assistance or help getting to a doctor's appointment.  Phyllis sang in the choir and directed and played for the Children's Choir at Wachogue Congregational Church in Springfield, MA.  She was also a member of Daughters of the Nile Ahlem Temple No. 84.
