Obituary

Daniel H. Hines, of South Hadley, passed away peacefully at his home on June 17, 2022, surrounded by his wife and children. Born on June 5, 1958, Dan had recently celebrated his 64th birthday with family and friends. He always had a smile on his face, a song in his heart and loved to make others laugh especially with his dad jokes. He was a devoted husband for over 37 years to his wife Joy L. (Bowlen) Hines and leaves behind three children Sara Spring of South Hadley, Krista Ackerman of Manchester by the Sea, Kyle Hines of Granby and their spouses. He was loved by and so proud of his 9 grandchildren Olivia, Harper, Micah, Jackson, Charlotte, Weston, Cora, Hunter and Lincoln. He also leaves behind his brother David Hines and his wife of The Villages in Florida. He was the son of the late Robert H. Hines and Dorothy J. (Ducharme) Hines. In addition to his parents Daniel was predeceased by his brothers Kevin M. Hines and Mark A. Hines. He grew up with a love for the outdoors and enjoyed waterskiing, hiking, fishing and camping trips with his family. Music was a big part of his childhood and he played his trombone in the school band with his brothers until he graduated from Chicopee High School in 1977. That same year he joined the Navy and went on to serve his country for four years until his honorable discharge in 1981. Anyone who knew Dan heard about his love for God and his desire to serve in ministry full-time. He began Bible College in 2002, but he had to take a break when he was diagnosed with pulmonary fibrosis, eventually receiving a double lung transplant in 2007. He later resumed his degree and graduated with a Bachelors in Biblical Studies from Boston Baptist College in 2012. Dan was a dedicated and involved member of Lifepoint Church in Chicopee and went on to pastor Journey Church of Pittsfield, Ma for several years until 2019 when he became very ill. Despite his health difficulties in recent years he continued to praise the Lord for His many blessings. The AstraZeneca Hope Lodge provided complimentary housing while Dan received his most recent cancer treatments in Boston. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the American Cancer Society AstraZeneca Hope Lodge – Boston, MA, 125 South Huntington Ave., Boston, MA 02130. http://www.cancer.org/hopelodgeboston to provide continued support to families in need. Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, June 22, from 4-7 pm at LifePoint Church 603 New Ludlow Road, Chicopee.  A celebration of life service for Dan will be held Thursday, June 23, at 10AM also at LifePoint Church.
