Edgar P. Belliveau

April 17, 1923 ~ February 12, 2017 (age 93) 93 Years Old
Edgar P. Belliveau 93, of East Longmeadow passed away on February 12, 2017 at Wingate in East Longmeadow. He was born in Hartford CT April 17 1923 the son of Edgar and Mary (Murphy) Belliveau. He spent his younger years in Hartford, but later moved to East Longmeadow. He graduated from Springfield Technical High School. Ed was proud to have served in the US Navy 1942-1946 and was a chief petty officer at the time of his discharge. He and his shipmates participated in operations in the Pacific Ocean theater of World War II where their ship was awarded 4 battle stars. During his retirement years he attended many reunions with those shipmates with whom he had shared that coming of age experience.
In 1941 Ed went to work at Pratt & Whitney Aircraft and retired from there in 1983 as a general foreman. He returned three times as a consultant with his last assignment being in 1991, after which he retired permanently. The early 1940’s also provided a more important aspect to his life as he met his future wife Wallis Lacine and upon his return from WWII they married and began to raise a family. Ed, Wallis and their family moved back to East Longmeadow in 1957. Ed was predeceased by his beloved wife of 40 years in 1986.
Ed loved living in East Longmeadow and, all told, was a resident for over 70 years. As many parents did, he devoted time to assisting in ELRA sports activities for almost 20 years. After he retired he was proud to serve the town as chairman of the East Longmeadow Housing Authority for a number of years and also served on the MA. State Housing Authority. He was a longtime communicant and member of the Knights of Columbus at St. Michaels Church in East Longmeadow. Most days Ed enjoyed getting started with morning coffee among his friends in East Longmeadow. Although the places and cast of characters changed somewhat over the years, he always enjoyed the company and friendships these daily get-togethers provided.
Ed was also fortunate to have the companionship of his good friend of many years, Elizabeth Dorman. Whether it was a trip to Europe, visits to his children on the west coast, their yearly trip to Naples FL, or holidays and special occasions with the Belliveau or Dorman families in New England, Ed’s life was better for those experiences. Ed is survived by his children, Lynn Annecston, Philip Belliveau and his wife Christine, Howard Belliveau and his wife Patricia and Raymond Belliveau and his wife Philippa. Ed was predeceased by his brother John Belliveau and one grandchild Marla Belliveau. He is survived by an additional 8 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild. Ed is also survived by his nieces, Linda Howell and her husband Jim and Laura Gates and her husband Steve. In addition he is survived by many friends and good neighbors in East Longmeadow, including his great friend since childhood, Charlotte Reed.
Calling hours will be held on Sunday February 19th from 2 – 5 PM at Forastiere Smith Funeral Home, 220 North Main St., East Longmeadow. Ed’s funeral service will be held on Monday February 20th starting at 9 AM at the funeral home followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10 AM at St. Michael’s Parish, 128 Maple St. East Longmeadow.
