Elijah C. Mentos

Elijah Centibo Mentos passed away in his Amherst home in July, 2018.  He was 31 years old.  Elijah was born in Hyannis, MA on August 11, 1986, and grew up in Amherst.  He attended Fort River Elementary, Amherst Middle, and Amherst High School.  He studied electronics at Springfield Technical Community College.  A talented musician, singer and songwriter, he had an infectious smile and tremendous wit.  The sound of Elijah’s steel drum sweetened the air of Amherst and Northampton streets over many years.  He will be missed greatly by his family and friends. Elijah is survived by his parents Alwynne and Carol (nee Woishnis) Mentos; brothers, Aaron Mentos and Ian Woishnis; his sister-in-law, Danielle Groux, nephew Evan and nieces, McKaila, Willow and Noelle.  In his lifetime, he was surrounded by doting uncles and aunts, Jeanne Gavrin, Barbara Moriarty, Mary Lee Bertrand, Joseph Woishnis, William Woishnis (deceased), Jeri Wachter, Elizabeth Chianciola, Marybeth Sutton, Norman Mentos (deceased), Morris Mentos (deceased), Cesil Mentos (deceased), Yvadne Richardson, Julie Mentos, Charles Mentos (deceased) Vincent Mentos; and many cousins around the globe.  He is predeceased by his maternal grandparents, Joseph and Jean Woishnis of Agawam, MA and paternal grandparents, Robert and Lilian Mentos of Sandy Point, Saint Kitts.  A cemetery service will take place on Friday, August 17, 2018 at 1:00 PM at St. Stanislaus Cemetery, 800 Montgomery St., Chicopee, MA.  A “Celebration of Life” will be held on Saturday, August 18, 2018 from 2:00-5:00 PM at the Hitchcock Center for the Environment, 845 West Street, Amherst, MA 01002.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the ORGANIZATION FOR AUTISM RESEARCH (OAR), 2000 N. 14th Street, Suite 300, Arlington, VA 22201, or visit: https://researchautism.org.
