Obituary

Frederick James Baceski, age 87, died at his home in Tolland, Massachusetts on Saturday, July 25, 2020 surrounded by family. He was born on November 28, 1932 in Springfield, Massachusetts to James and Katherine (Lupa) Baceski. He was a graduate of Springfield Technical High School. Frederick went on to graduate from the New York State Ranger School. He subsequently worked in the Bureau of Traffic Engineering for the city of Springfield before becoming supervisor at Hampton Ponds State Forest, Brimfield State Forest, and Dean Pond. Frederick was the supervisor of the Granville State Forest from 1970 until his retirement in 1992. He was a veteran of the Korean War, serving as a Sergeant Major in the United States Army. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Patricia (McCrystal) Baceski and their two daughters, Tina Baceski of Kansas City, Missouri, and Susan Baceski and her partner Edmund Vignolo of Granville, MA; a sister Helen Brinkman and her husband Dr. Charles Brinkman of Colorado, along with several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother, Edward Baceski, in 2008. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church in Southwick, MA on Wednesday, July 29 at 11am. Burial will be immediately following at the Mass Veteran’s Cemetery in Agawam. Current Mass Veteran’s Cemetery regulations restrict the number of attendees, thus, only immediate family will be present for the chapel committal service. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Southwick Forastiere Funeral Home, 624 College Highway, Southwick. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Frederick’s name to the Town of Tolland, 241 West Granville Rd., Tolland, MA 01034. Please note in the memo that the donation is being made for emergency services.
