Frederick Peter Bliss
October 13, 1926 ~ June 12, 2021 (age 94) 94 Years Old
Frederick P. Bliss 1926 – 2021 Agawam- Frederick P. Bliss, 94, passed away peacefully on June 12, 2021. He was born on October 13, 1926 in Hempstead NY to the late Peter and Victoria (Sobela) Bliss. Fred bravely entered the US Army right after High School and served during WWII. He was on training maneuvers for the invasion of Japan when the War ended. He was discharged with the rank of Staff Sergeant. Fred went on to become an electrician and eventually began his own electrical contracting business. He closed his business in Bethpage NY and re-located to Copake NY. There he went to work for B-D in Canaan CT as part of the electrical maintenance staff and had become the electrical department supervisor by the time he retired. After retirement, Fred moved to Agawam MA to be closer to his daughter and grandsons. Fred enjoyed being a handyman, and would often help his friends and neighbors by continuing to do a little electrical work for them Fred and Alice enjoyed many retirement years as “snowbirds” in their winter home in Barefoot Bay FL. Polka music and polka dancing brought Fred much joy, and he could often be found where ever polka music was playing. Fred was also a member of the Agawam Polish Club and enjoyed helping out there whenever he could. Fred leaves behind his daughter April Mosher and her husband James of Agawam, his grandsons Steven Martin and his wife Jennifer Zimmerman and David Martin and his wife Christina Clements both of Billerica, and the newest joys to his life, his great-grandchildren Elaina and Marcus Martin, as well as many family and friends. In addition to his parents, Fred was predeceased by his loving wife of 55 years Alice (Deal) Bliss who passed in 2006 and by his nine siblings. Family and friends are invited to gather on Thursday June 17, 2021 from 2-4pm and 6-8pm in Colonial Forastiere Funeral & Cremation, 985 Main St., Agawam. Services for Fred will be Friday June 18, 2021 at 9am in the funeral home, followed by a Burial with Military Honors at the Massachusetts Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery, Agawam.
