George P. Dieni

George P. Dieni, 90, passed away on May 20, 2020 at Baystate Medical Center. Born in Springfield, MA on August 1, 1929 to the late John V. and Rose (Campiti) Dieni, he attended Springfield Technical Community College and received his Associate’s Degree in Criminal Justice. He proudly served in the United States Army as a MP during the European Theater of Operation, where he was stationed in Germany.

For 28 years, he served as a Police Officer for the City of Springfield before retiring in 1990 as a Detective in the Youth Aid Bureau. George enjoyed spending time with his family especially at cookouts. He also enjoyed fishing, frequent trips to Walt Disney World and watching his grandchildren play sports. In his earlier years, he enjoyed camping and hunting.

Besides his parents, George was predeceased by his devoted wife of 55 years, Caterina (Zangara) Dieni, who passed away in May, 2010; his daughter, baby Anna and by his sister Concetta Vevier. To cherish his memory, he leaves his children George Vincent Dieni and his wife Gloria of Feeding Hills, Rosetta Linnehan of East Longmeadow, Anthony Dieni and his wife Laura of East Longmeadow, Josephine Dieni of East Longmeadow, Diane Smith and her husband Gregory of Monson and Frank Dieni and his wife Melissa of East Longmeadow; his 14 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; his brothers Dominic Dieni of Mystic, CT and John Dieni of Longmeadow as well as many nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, May 26, 2020 from 4 -8 PM at Forastiere Smith Funeral Home, 220 North Main Street, East Longmeadow. THIS WILL ALLOW US TO ACCOMMODATE THE GOVERNOR’S NUMERIC LIMITATIONS FOR GATHERINGS. Funeral services and entombment in the Most Holy Redeemer Mausoleum at Gate of Heaven Cemetery will be private for the family.
