Giovanni was born on October 14, 1942 in Castelmauro, Italy to the late Antonio and Emelia Trolio; one of nine children. As a young man, he developed a strong work ethic by working on the family farm. He also traveled to Germany and throughout Europe while working on the autobahn. In 1964 he moved to the United States and shortly afterwards he met and married the love of his life, Incoronata, on July 9, 1966. Following his passion for cooking, he mastered his trade as a chef and began working at local restaurants. Soon after, he branched out with his family and opened Trolio’s Pizzeria in Agawam and Springfield. Giovanni later owned and operated Joy’s Restaurant in Ludlow for over 30 years.
In his spare time, he loved to cook, garden and to make his own wine. He utilized his agricultural and farming skills to grow his own vegetable garden, fruit trees, and manage honey bees, producing honey, fruit, and vegetables for his family and friends to enjoy. Giovanni also enjoyed playing bocce, the harmonica, and to sing. More importantly, he was a true family man. He absolutely adored and loved his wife and enjoyed being at home spending time with his family. Giovanni was a man of faith and a parishioner of Mt Carmel Church for many years as well as St. Michaels Parish. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and dear friend.
He leaves behind his beloved wife of 57 years, Incoronata (DiFilippo). He leaves behind his daughter, Rita Mance and her husband, Eric, his sons Gino Trolio and his significant other Michelle St. John, and Frank Trolio and his wife Kathyrn, and his two grandchildren Jack and Ava Trolio.
