Irene L Fischer

Irene Lea (Benoit) Fischer, 93, passed away peacefully Sunday, March 31, 2019 at Wingate of Wilbraham. Born October 4, 1925 in Chicopee, MA, she was a daughter to the late Ernest and Dorilla (Bouchard) Benoit. She was married to Ernest “Bud” Fischer who predeceased her in 2008. Irene was a graduate of Chicopee High School and Bay Path Junior College. She worked at Sickles in Chicopee before moving to Long Island, NY where she found her career as a tour consultant for TWA in the Manhattan NY office. She had a passion for photography, and took countless pictures during her travels around the world. After retiring from TWA, she moved to Agawam, MA. She loved knitting with her knitting machine and won several awards and ribbons at Eastern States. Irene leaves her sister Therese Ladue; nephew David Bonneville and wife, Barbara; niece Catherine Caldwell of Indiana; niece Suzanne Talaia; grand-niece Nicole Talaia; grand-nephew Bill Stoner and many other nieces, nephews and friends. The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff at Wingate of Wilbraham for their excellent care and attention given to Irene. A gathering of family and friends will be held from 11:30AM-12:30PM on Thursday, April 4, 2019 at Colonial Forastiere Funeral Home, 985 Main St., Agawam, MA with a memorial service to celebrate Irene’s life beginning at 12:30PM at the funeral home. Interment will follow in the Massachusetts Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery, Agawam. Memorial contributions may be made in Irene’s name to Dakin Humane Society, PO Box 6307, Springfield, MA 01101.
