SPRINGFIELD- James Bernard Mellitt, 82, beloved husband of 43 years to Mary (Semanie) Mellitt, passed away suddenly on January 8, 2019. James was born on January 5, 1937 in New York City, New York, a son of the late Joseph R. Mellitt and Margaret (Cauley) Mellitt; and was a Springfield resident for over 20 years. He was a parishioner of St. Patrick Church in Springfield. James was a C. F. O. for various local cooperation’s. In addition to his parents, James was predeceased by a brother, Roger Mellitt. Besides his wife, James is survived by his three loving daughters, Mary Hoffman and husband Benjamin Hoffman of Manchester, Connecticut, Jaime Paterno and husband John Paterno of Wilbraham, Jenny Milbier and husband Marco Milbier of Springfield; two dear brothers, Richard “Dick” Mellitt of Thousand Oaks, California, Father John Mellitt OFM CAP, of New Paltz, New York; six cherished grandchildren, Jonathan Hoffman, Bridget Hoffman, Neil Hoffman, Jack Paterno, Austen Paterno, Lucy Paterno. He also leaves nieces, nephews, and cousins. A Funeral service will take place at 8:45AM on Saturday (January 12, 2019) from the Forastiere Smith Family Funeral Home, 220 North Main Street, East Longmeadow followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10:00AM in St. Patrick’s Church, 1900 Allen Street, Springfield. Everyone will be invited to a committal service in the Most Holy Redeemer Mausoleum located on the grounds of the Gate of Heaven, 421 Tinkham Road, Springfield on Saturday January 19, 2019. Please call the funeral home at 413-525-2800 for the exact time of the service. The calling hours for Mr. Mellitt will take place from 4:00PM – 7:00PM on Friday (January 11, 2019) at the funeral home. Flowers are welcome.
