Jonathan M. Birtwell

February 27, 1951 ~ July 15, 2021 (age 70) 70 Years Old

Obituary

Boston lost their number one sports fan on Thursday, July 15, 2021. Jonathan M. Birtwell passed away at home, surrounded by his family.  He will be remembered as a devoted husband, father, grandfather, son, brother and friend. His easy-going personality and good nature were his trademarks. Jon’s inspirational marriage of 38 years with the love of his life, Donna, was what he valued most. His most treasured times were spent with the family they created together. He was a proud dad and grandfather and enjoyed nothing more than listening, watching, and talking about his family and the Red Sox. After retirement, Jon enjoyed his daily routine, reading the newspaper, finishing the crossword puzzle, and spending time with his grandchildren.

A lifelong resident of East Longmeadow, Jon was the son of the late Rosemary (Money) Prendergast and Laurence Birtwell. He graduated from East Longmeadow High School and American International College (AIC). He owned Jon’s Mobil Station at the rotary in East Longmeadow, where he built cherished friendships in town and where he met his future wife. After selling the service station, Jon successfully transitioned to a career as a sales manager for a series of Marvin Window distributors, finishing his career managing Bonneville International’s US operation, where he retired.

Jon leaves his beloved wife Donna (Michael) Birtwell, daughter, Kathryn Miller and her husband Andrew of West Springfield, son, Jonathan Birtwell and wife Kirstin of Boston, daughter, Cortney Bowen and her husband Greg of Greenwich CT, and son, Matthew and girlfriend Dana of Springfield; his adored grandchildren: Ellie, Izzy, Gracie, Charlie and Jack; his sister Nancy Birtwell and her partner Fred Vanderbeck of Pelham MA; and his dedicated dog Brooks.
