Josephine "Josie" Sokol
1928-2022
Josephine (Galas) Sokol, a resident of Agawam, and former 52 year resident of Longmeadow, passed away peacefully on July 27, 2022 at Heritage Hall West. She was born February 16, 1928 in Chicopee, the daughter of the late Francis and Katherine (Krason) Galas. In addition to her parents, Josie was predeceased by her sister Frances Galas. She graduated from Holy Name High School, class of 1945. She was a longtime sales associate at the former Steigers Department Store, downtown Springfield. Josie was proud of her volunteerism, especially at the Springfield Museum, where she donated her time for many years. She was a faithful communicant of St. Mary's Church in Longmeadow and a member of the Woman's Guild. She loved music, art, fashion and entertaining for family and friends at her home. Left to cherish her memory is her nephew, Michael Sokol, and cousins, Edward Osetek, Thaddeus Osetek, Ruth Kolek, Mary Ann Rice, Martha Morris and Gloria Borys.
There are no calling hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, August 2, 2022 at 12:00pm in St Mary's Church, 519 Longmeadow Street, Longmeadow. Burial will follow at St. Stanislaus Cemetery in Chicopee. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary's Church, 519 Longmeadow Street, Longmeadow, MA. 01106 or to Elms College, 291 Springfield Street, Chicopee, MA. 01013.
