Obituary

Lorraine (Nelson) Stevens peacefully passed away, at the Chestnut Hill Rehabilitation Center under hospice care, on June 14, 2022, at 87 years old. She leaves behind her cherished children Susan Stevens and her partner John Donald, Christopher Stevens and his wife Amy, Michael Stevens and his wife Stephanie, and adored grandchildren, Mitchell, Bradley, Emma, and Maggie. She also leaves her loving brother Weldon Nelson, and his wife Naomi and niece Janice. Lorraine was predeceased by Ernest (Ernie) her beloved husband of 56 years,
Lorraine was born in Somerville, MA and was raised in Arlington, MA. After graduating high school in 1952, Lorraine graduated from Lasell Jr. College. Upon graduation, she worked as a medical technician for Arthur D. Little and the Jimmy Fund. After working as a full-time mom for 10 years, Lorraine began her second career as the kitchen manager for the Germaine Lawrence School and a part-time travel agent.
First and foremost, Lorraine was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. In addition to her family and friends, her loves included traveling, theater, and her church. Lorraine began her traveling with two tours of Europe in 1957 and 1961. In later years other travel adventures included trips to Turkey, Mexico, Scandinavia, and Ireland. But, among all, London was a favorite destination, in particular traveling aboard the Queen Elizabeth II ship. She was a member of Arlington Friends of the Drama for over fifty years. In those years, she produced and served on the board of directors. However, Lorraine will be most remembered for the many beautiful and creative costumes she designed and sewed as well as over 75 cakes she baked and decorated to match the shows’ programs to celebrate opening nights. Such skills came naturally to Lorraine as she was a talented artist, even receiving a state award of merit at the age of 14. Lorraine was a life-long Lutheran and became a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church prior to her confirmation. She was a faithful servant and active member for over sixty years.
A Celebration of Life, followed by a reception, will be held on July 23, at 3:00 PM at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 929 Concord Turnpike, Arlington, MA 02476.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Lorraine’s memory may be made to Camp Calumet Lutheran Ministries, 1090 Ossipee Lake Rd, West Ossipee, NH 03890 or St. Paul Lutheran Church 929 Concord Turnpike, Arlington, MA 02476.
