Mary Simonich

East Longmeadow – Mary Malvina (Fitzgerald) Simonich, 81, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister and aunt passed away at home with her loving family by her side on April 15, 2017. She was the first born child of the late James and Mae Lillian (Daigle) Fitzgerald. She was a 1952 graduate of Cathedral High School and a 1956 graduate of College of Our Lady of the Elms. Mary began her working career as a 3rd grade teacher at John Ashley School in West Springfield. She met and married her loving husband of 59 years, Charles J. Simonich and became a homemaker who proudly raised their 3 adored sons. Always a loving and caring person, Mary hosted the holidays for the extended family. She was an amazing cook and organizer. She will be greatly missed for her wonderful sense of humor and her joyous laugh. In addition to her husband Charles she leaves her sons, Charles N. Simonich and his companion Tara J. Gorman of Springfield, David J. Simonich and Kim Simonich of Pepperell, MA, and John Simonich of Westfield, MA, Kimberly Simonich McKenzie of Springfield, MA; 3 grandchildren Michael, Andrew and Matthew; a brother, Brian Fitzgerald and his wife Nancy “BG” of West Suffield, CT; her cousin, Sr. Judith O’Connell, SSJ and the rest of the extended family. She was predeceased by her brothers, James and Terrence Fitzgerald. She is remembered with love by her many dear friends. Visiting hours will be on Friday, April 21st from 4-7PM at Forastiere Smith Funeral Home, 220 North Main St., East Longmeadow. Mary’s funeral will be held on Saturday, April 22nd from the funeral home at 10:15AM followed by the Mass of Christian Burial in St. Michael’s Church, East Longmeadow at 11:30AM. Burial will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Sisters of St. Joseph, 577 Carew St., Springfield, MA 01104.
