Maryann Carra

SOMERS, CT – Maryann (DeVarney) Carra, 74, of Somers, CT, passed away peacefully on February 1, 2023 surrounded by her loving family. 
 
Maryann was born on December 16, 1948 in Springfield, MA to the late Marrita and George DeVarney. She attended Cathedral High School and Springfield Technical Institute and went on to work as a Surgical Technician for 5 years at Mercy Hospital’s Major Surgery.
 
Maryann met her high school sweetheart, Tony in 1962. She and her soulmate married in 1968 and have been together every day since. They built their forever home in Somers, CT where they brought up their 3 sons.
 
After her youngest went to school full time, Maryann went to work at Somers Elementary School as a paraprofessional which she enjoyed for 18 years.
 
Maryann’s "happy place" was their cottage in Old Lyme, CT, where they would spend the summers with family and friends, being at the beach, playing cards, games, late night conversations and making lifetime memories. Along with playing the slots at Mohegan Sun, crafting and traveling with Tony, Maryann loved to read and do crossword puzzles. Her greatest joy was being with family, especially her 4 Grandsons. 
 
Maryann is survived by her devoted husband Anthony Carra; her three sons and their spouses Scott (Claire) of Portland, OR, Brett (Wes) of Enfield, CT and Nicholas (Lauren) of Ellington, CT and her grandsons Peter, Jack, Ben and Nolan, all of whom she loved deeply. She also leaves her beloved sister, Ann Feeney of Enfield, CT and her many nieces, nephews and their spouses. She was predeceased by her sister Linda Grigg of FL and her brother Brad DeVarney of Enfield, CT, who she missed and loved dearly.
 
Family and friends are invited to gather on Wednesday, February 8, 2023 from 8:45 – 10:45 AM at Forastiere Smith Funeral & Cremation, 220 North Main Street, East Longmeadow, MA. Funeral services will begin at 10:45 AM at the funeral home followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 12 Noon at All Saints Church, 25 School Street, Somersville, CT. Burial will follow in Somers Center Cemetery, 81 Battle Street, Somers, CT.
