Maurice "Moe" R. Desmarais

Maurice “Moe” Roger Desmarais, 85, passed away peacefully May 5, 2022 surrounded by his loving family at his home in Florida.  Born July 9, 1936 in Springfield, MA, he was a son to the late Real and Bertha (Cote) Desmarais. 

He was a veteran of the Korean War serving our country proudly as a Sergeant with the U.S. Marine Corp.  Following his honorable discharge, Moe was employed as a CDL truck driver for a variety of local companies retiring from Sonoco Fibre Drum.  He was an avid fisherman and a loyal fan of Nascar and the Boston Red Sox and Bruins.  Most of all he cherished his time with family. 

He is survived by his devoted wife of 65 years, Ruby (Schmoyer) Desmarais of Agawam and Englewood, FL; son Michael Desmarais and his significant other, Sharon Roulier and her daughters Stephanie and Sarah; daughters Donna (Joseph) Valenti, Linda (Eric) Lottermoser, and Teresa (Shawn) Smith all of Agawam, MA; grandchildren Joseph (Taryne) Valenti, Anthony (Jane) Valenti, James Valenti, Steven (fiancee Bliss Weathers) Desmarais, Kristen (Jean) Desmarais Baptiste, Evan Lottermoser, Derek Lottermoser, Summer Smith and Colin Smith; great-grandchildren Aria, Leonardo, Jackson and Avery Valenti.  Moe will also be missed by his brother Paul Desmarais of Wilbraham, MA; brothers-in-law Leonard (Roz) Schmoyer and Barry Schmoyer all of Sarasota, FL; and numerous nieces, nephews, other loving relatives and friends.  In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sister Clare Desmarais Ehrhart. 

Moe’s family would like to extend a special thank you to Maddy and Tia of Tidewell Hospice for their sincere care and compassion that they displayed during this most difficult time. 

A private graveside service with military honors for Moe will be held at 11AM on Friday, May 13, 2022 at the Massachusetts Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery, 1390 Main St., Agawam, MA 01001.  A Memorial Mass will be held at a later date.  In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Tidewell Foundation, Inc. at 5955 Rand Blvd., Sarasota, FL  34238.
