Muriel June Wensley
Muriel “June” Wensley, 95, passed away on October 8, 2019. She was a much beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend. Born in New Rochelle, NY on June 8, 1924, she was the daughter of the late Dr. William Charles and Muriel Adelaide (Jennings) Miller, of Greenwich CT. She was raised in Pelham Manor, NY and graduated from the University Of Pennsylvania School Of Dental Hygiene in Philadelphia, PA. She was the first wife of the late Robert Pawson Wensley of Westfield, MA. June was an active member of Bethany Assembly of God in Agawam, MA for 45 years, where she sang in the choir and was a deaconess. June had a heart for the lost. For over 25 years she visited the Pittsfield and Springfield jails leading weekly bible studies for men and women. She worked with homeless men at the Springfield Rescue Mission leading bible studies and serving meals. She was a live-in counselor at the Walter Hoving Home in Garrison, NY, a home for troubled women, and trained to be a counselor with Evangelism Explosion Int. in TX, always in an attempt to reach out to the lost and hurting. She later became the first Director of the Crisis Pregnancy Center (now The Springfield Pregnancy Care Center) until her retirement after 25 years of volunteer service in 2010. She received the MCFL Pro-Life Person of the Year Award in 1994. June was politically active, fighting for the rights of the unborn, often on the steps of the Supreme Court in Springfield, MA and Washington, D.C. June loved skiing in Vermont and spending weekends at her brother’s chalet in Dorset. She loved tennis, sailing, reading and gardening. June was predeceased by her brothers, Donald and his wife Virginia of Darien, CT and Dr. William C. Miller of Greenwich, CT, as well as her son, William J. Wensley of Shaftsbury, VT. She leaves behind two children; Linda Rigos of Pompano Beach, FL, Susan Kendrick and her husband Mark of Hampden, MA, and a daughter-in-law, Cari Wensley of Shaftsbury, VT. She leaves five grandchildren; Thalia Robbins and her husband Michael of Hartford, CT, Joshua Kendrick and his wife Leah of E. Longmeadow, MA, Timothy Kendrick and his wife Nina of Agawam, MA, Laura King and her husband Timothy of Bolton, MA, William Wensley and his wife Lindsey of Bennington, VT, thirteen great grandchildren, a niece, Lorraine Suchy and nephew, Stewart Miller as well as two sister-in-laws; Dulce Miller and Janet Kimberling.
Calling hours will be Sunday, Oct 27 at Bethany Assembly of God, 580 Main St., Agawam, MA from 3-4 followed by a service at 4:00 with burial on Monday. In lieu of flowers, donations in June’s memory may be made to the Springfield Pregnancy Care Center, 704 Sumner Avenue, Springfield, MA 01108.
