Neil Douglas Smith died at his home in Feeding Hills, Mass. on Wednesday, September 15, 2021 surrounded by his loving family. Born September 8, 1938 to Priscilla Hathaway Trombley, Neil grew up in the Merrick section of West Springfield, Massachusetts. He had been a resident of the Feeding Hills section of Agawam for the past 58 years.
A 1993 graduate of Holyoke Community College, Neil proudly served his country during the Korean War as a member of the Unites States Marines.
Neil worked briefly at the Springfield Armory before spending 30 years as an employee of Springfield Sugar and Products Company (Sweet Life Foods). In his retirement, Neil enjoyed spending time with his family, especially their trips together to Maine.
Neil was a devout man of faith, and leaves his loving wife Anna Rose (DeMichele), with whom he proudly celebrated 60 years of marriage at a recent dinner surrounded by family and friends. He is also survived by his beloved daughter Patricia and her husband William Souder; his grandchildren, whom he adored: Emma Souder of Agawam; Ian Souder and his partner Julia Gustavesen of Orono, Maine, and Justin Romaszka of New Jersey; a brother David Smith and his wife Charlotte, of California; and a sister-in-law Helen Smith of Georgia. He also leaves many special nieces and nephews. Neil was predeceased by his parents and his brothers Grandon and Kenneth.
Family and friends are invited to gather on Tuesday September 21, 2021 from 4-7pm in Colonial Forastiere Funeral & Cremation, 985 Main St., Agawam MA. Funeral services are Wednesday September 22, 2021 at 9:45am in the funeral home, followed by a Mass at 11:00am St. Andrews Episcopal Church, 335 Longmeadow St., Longmeadow. Burial with Military Honors at Springfield Street Cemetery, Feeding Hills.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the youth education fund, St. Andrews Episcopal Church, 335 Longmeadow Street, Longmeadow, Massachusetts 01106.
