Springfield – It is with heavy heart that we announce the death of Normand Raymond Harnois, 87, on November 28, 2017. He was born in Lowell, MA, to the late Louis and Rose (Magras) Harnois on February 25, 1930. At the age of 18 Normand proudly served overseas in the U. S. Army during the Korean War attaining the rank of Sergeant. During his 35 year career at Western Union Telegraph he worked as a Communications Engineer, Manager, and a Technical Supervisor for locations in 4 states. Normand was a very active member in many organizations including, President of the Telegraphers Union Local 52 for 10 years, President of the Board of Trustees for Hampden East Condominiums, VFW member, American Legion Post 591 member, and Knights of Columbus, serving on 4 chairs and then was Grand Knight. Normand was an avid Red Sox fan, bowler and photographer. Above all he loved spending time with his family and he will be greatly missed. He leaves Veronica (D’urso) Harnois; 2 sons, A. Kent Harnois and his wife Chris of West Roxbury, MA, and John Harnois of N. Syracuse, NY; 4 daughters, Kathleen Duquette and her husband Lee of Hampden, Sheila Foley of West Springfield, Carol Ann Recor and her husband Al of Springfield, and E. Jeanne Harnois of New York, NY; 6 grandchildren, Marissa, Christina, Caitlin, Abigail, Stephen, and Karissa; 2 brothers, L. Paul Harnois of VA, and Robert Harnois of Dracut, MA. In addition to his parents he was predeceased by his sister, Marie Soucy. Family and friends are invited to attend visiting hours on Tuesday, December 5th from 4-8PM at Forastiere Smith Funeral Home, 220 North Main St., East Longmeadow. Normand’s funeral service will begin on Wednesday, December 6th from the funeral home at 11:30AM followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Catherine of Siena Church, Springfield at 1PM. A committal service with Military Honors will follow in Massachusetts Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery Chapel, Agawam.
