Obituary

Raymond E. Miner, 90 of East Longmeadow MA., passed away peacefully at home on February 21, 2021 surrounded by his loving family. He was born on May 4th, 1930 to his parents Ovila Miner (formally Menard) of West Brookfield MA and Doletta Phaneuf of Indian Orchard MA.

Dad was raised on a farm in Monson MA graduating from the Monson school system and later served in the Korean conflict proudly supporting his country as a courier in the Army. He followed with employment as a highly skilled tool and die maker and machinist at Diamond International in Springfield MA for 25 years, returning to work post - retirement at Rice Packaging for several more years, retiring fully in 1993.

Dad married the love of his life, Jane C. Miner (Nash) of Springfield MA (passed in 2013) and was blessed with 58 years of marriage and 5 children: Brian R. Miner married to Judith Miner, Martin P. Miner married to Kimberly Miner, Deborah M. Mancini married to Joseph L. Mancini, Linda J. Mancuso and T. Mancuso, and Kevin R. Miner married to Lynda L. Miner; 9 grandchildren: Jeremy, Joshua, Marie, Tara, Vincent, Tyler, Kayla, Shelby and Marissa and 5 great grandchildren Brandan, Nicholas, Destiny, Jayden and Emma Jane.

He shared a birthday with daughter Deborah and daughter-in-law Lynda.  He remained very active throughout his life serving as a communicant of St, Michaels Parish of East Longmeadow and Holy Cross Church of Springfield. Dad was also a member of the Springfield Yacht Club, the Springfield Kiltie Band, and Elks Club of Springfield and was elected Frenchman of the Year. His family and friends were blessed by his jovial spirit and zest for life. He could play a mean game of pitch and enjoyed his daily walks and bicycling with his many friends. Dad’s passion was to provide a lending hand to family and neighbors alike and was known to be the man who could fix anything.

A special thank you to his loving neighbors who he adored him and the staff at D’Amour Cancer Center and Baystate Hospice.

Family and friends are invited to gather on Thursday, February 25, 2021 from 4 – 7 PM at Forastiere Smith Funeral Home, 220 North Main Street, East Longmeadow, MA. Funeral services will be held on Friday, February 26, 2021 at 10 AM at the funeral home followed by burial in St. Aloysius Cemetery, Berkshire Ave, Indian Orchard.
