Obituary

Roberta Anne Pieper passed away peacefully on April 2, 2019, surrounded by her loving family. She and her husband, Albert William Pieper, raised their ten children in Enfield CT: Michael Pieper (Janet), Enfield, CT; Eileen Keenley (Richard), Martinez, CA; Beatrice Nolan (Dennis), Madison, WI; Patrick Pieper (Liz Goodgold), Reno, NV; Susan Pieper, Sherman Oaks, CA; Christine Pieper, Madison, WI; Eric Pieper (Matthew Moody), Phoenix, AZ; Gretchen Roderick (Bradley), Cordova, TN; Carl Pieper (Christina),Enfield, CT; Jennifer Barnes (Jeffrey), Enfield, CT.

Born December 4, 1932, in Worcester, MA, the daughter of Charles H. Duggan and Beatrice (Hampston), Roberta was a lifelong learner and dedicated news junkie; her passion for listening to NPR kept her conversant in current events. She had a quick wit, a wonderful sense of humor and enjoyed displaying her creativity through cooking, gardening and quilting.

A devout Catholic, Roberta served as lay reader and Eucharistic minister at St. Joseph’s in Chester, VT and was active at Saint Mary’s in Springfield, VT, before returning to Enfield, CT in 2016. She spent many hours in the Adoration chapel wherever she lived and was dedicated to the Blessed Virgin.

Roberta is preceded in death by her beloved husband of 55 years, as well as her four siblings: Anne Duggan, Charles Duggan, Barbara Marhafer and Mary Coonan.

She also leaves behind ten grandchildren Kimberly Brucker (Bill), James Keenley (Emily Bolt), Elizabeth Keenley, Nolan Pieper, Joshua Roderick (Alexis), Caleb Roderick, Michael Anthony Pieper, Kristopher Pieper, Anthony Barnes and Joseph Barnes and seven great grandchildren.

The Pieper family wishes to thank the “Great Inn Keepers” of Bluebird Estates for the loving environment, Interim Health Care for their compassion, and Trinity Health Hospice and Kindhands for gentling Roberta into her eternal rest.

A Catholic funeral liturgy will be celebrated Saturday April 13, 2019 at 11:30 a.m. at St. Michaels Church, 128 Maple St., East Longmeadow MA. The private burial service will be at The State Veterans Cemetery in Middletown, CT. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the American Lung Association,393 Maple St., STE 3, Springfield, MA 01105.
