Thelma Brewster

Obituary

Thelma R. Brewster passed away peacefully on November 16, 2022 at the age of 107. Born in Boston, MA on June 12, 1915 to the late Raymond and Rose (Wieland) Cahill of Medford, MA, she was the oldest of four children.

 

She graduated from Medford High School in 1932. She started taking dance lessons at the age of 5 and continued through her teen years. She was part of a traveling dance troupe headed by Lou Walters (father of Barbara Walters) that toured the country by bus.

 

After marrying at the age of 18, she moved to New Jersey and New York where she worked for the Johnson Mathey Co., a worldwide dealer of precious metal, rising to the level of Executive Secretary to the President of the New York Branch in the diamond district of Manhattan. She was employed there for over 45 years. She also enjoyed quilting, opera at the Met and hours browsing the thrift shops of NYC. She liked to share many stories of her life in the city and of her years there.

 

She was predeceased by her husband of over 60 years, Andrew Brewster of NYC; her brothers Paul of Reading, MA and David of Wilbraham, MA and her sister Beverly of Medford, MA.

 

Following the death of her husband in the aftermath of 9/11, she moved to Longmeadow in October, 2001 into Glenmeadow where she remained until her passing. Thelma was an active member of the Glenmeadow Community, volunteering to support activities to the assisted living residents and in fundraising events for Glenmeadow.

 

Thelma is survived by her nephews Douglas Cahill of Belchertown, MA, David R. Cahill, Jr. of Tinton Falls, NJ and Stephen Cahill of Delaware; a niece Heather Soracco of Reading, MA as well as numerous grand and great nieces, nephews and extended family members.

 

The family would like to thank the staff and aides at Glenmeadow at Home for the care given to Thelma and the staff at Spectrum Hospice for their care and support.

 

Funeral services will be planned privately.
