Obituary

“If we would just slow down, happiness would catch up to us.” R Carlson, Don’t Sweat The Small Stuff

Quick with a smile, open heart, and listening ear, Vincent Scordino knew how to be happy. He also knew how to worry. Here’s to hoping he only leaves the first trait behind. If not, he left us Don’t Sweat the Small Stuff … And It’s All Small Stuff in his office, so we too, can be open, kind and happy in his honor.

On Thursday January 21, 2021, at age 77, Vincent Scordino of East Longmeadow, MA and Venice, FL, passed away. He fought for weeks against COVID, beating the virus but not the after effects. He found peace surrounded by family and the wonderful caregivers at Sarasota Memorial Hospital.

Born in Springfield, MA, he was the son of the late Mary (Ferreri) Scordino and Carmelo Scordino. He was the loving husband of 54 years to Margaret (McLaughlin) Scordino. Vinnie was the proud, devoted father to Mary Bellezza and her husband Michael, Ellen Scordino and her partner Shaun Kirby, and Vincent Scordino and his wife Stephanie Burton. He was greatly loved by his six grandchildren – Bridget, Agnes, Andrew, Margaret, Thomas and Rose. He leaves behind in-laws Owen McLaughlin and his wife Debby, John McLaughlin and his wife Rosemary, and Mary McLaughlin as well as numerous nephews, nieces, cousins and friends. He was predeceased by his parents, parents-in-law, and sister, Agnes Ricco, and brother in law, Arno “Chuck” Ricco.

Friends and family will miss his warmth, humor, love and generosity, but we celebrate a life well-lived, traveling and enjoying the waters and beaches from Prince Edward Island to Hawaii (and always comparing them to Old Lyme, CT, his favorite).

His family is grateful for the care he received at Sarasota Memorial Hospital and by Lung Associates of Sarasota, as well as the friendship, listening ear, and assistance of Dr. Shamim Najeebi.

A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Michael’s Parish, 128 Maple St., East Longmeadow, MA on Tuesday February 9, 2021 at 10:30am. A burial with military honors will be at the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery at the family’s convenience. A larger celebration of life will occur in the fall.

In lieu of flowers, please send memorial contributions in Vincent’s name to the Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758516, Topeka, Kansas 66675-8516.
