Virginia Lee McCray

AGAWAM – Virginia Lee McCray, 95, passed away on January 13, 2020 at Mont Marie Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center in Holyoke. Born in Brooklyn, NY on July 25, 1924, she was the daughter of the late Alf Johan and Inga (Andersen) Kongslie.

She had managed five restaurants in two different states for Forbes and Wallace before working for a number of years at Mt. Holyoke College in the President’s home. Virginia then retired from Mass Mutual, where she managed the cafeteria.

She was an award winning knitter and belonged to knitting groups at the West Springfield Senior Center, South Congregational Church in Springfield and Agawam Senior Center. She also liked to read, travel and garden. Virginia’s family will always fondly remember her huge heart and how she cared more about others than herself.

Besides her parents, Virginia was predeceased by her husband Franklin McCray who passed away in 2007; her 2nd husband Joseph Adamczyk who she married in 1976; her former husband of over 25 years and the father of her children Ralph Titus and passed away in 2006; her daughter Elizabeth Almeida who passed away in 2015; her brothers Alf and Parkman Kongslie and her sister Julie Kongslie. To cherish her memory, she leaves her children Gregory Titus and his wife Gail of South Carolina, Virginia Vigneault and her husband Wayne Tangel of Westhampton, MA and Joyce Douthwright and her husband Kenneth of Belchertown, MA; ten grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren.

Family and friends are invited to gather on Wednesday, January 22, 2020 from 9 – 10 AM at Colonial Forastiere Funeral Home, 985 Main Street, Agawam with a service at 10 AM. Committal services will be held at 11 AM at the Massachusetts Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery, 1390 Main Street, Agawam.
