Longmeadow – Douglas “Doug” Steven Hebert, 82, devoted husband father and grandfather, passed away peacefully with his loving family by his side at the Holyoke Soldier’s Home on July 14, 2017. He was born in Stafford, CT to the late Paul and Anna (Leger) Hebert on January 27th 1935. He was a 1953 graduate of Rockville High School in Rockville, CT. Doug proudly served in the U. S. Army and then went on to work at Kaman Corporation in the Quality Control Department for 24 years. He retired as a Section Chief from the U. S. Government Department of Defense in 2002 after 20 years in a job he truly loved. In his younger years, Doug coached hockey and baseball and was very involved in his children’s and grandchildren’s activities. He was a Longmeadow Knight of Columbus and a communicant of St. Mary’s Church. Doug was an avid golfer especially in retirement. Most of all he loved spending time with his family. This dignified man with a warm smile will be greatly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him. In addition to his parents Doug was predeceased by his cherished son, Dennis Hebert who passed in 1990; his brothers, Rev. Paul Hebert and Robert Hebert; and his sister, Maryanne Burke. He leaves his loving wife of 60 years, Sharon (Nelson) Hebert; his son, Daniel Hebert and his wife Colleen of Woodstock, CT; his daughter Diane Lemke of Longmeadow; 5 grandchildren, Andrew, Brendan, Emily, Michael and Ben; a brother, John Hebert and his wife, Barbara of Enfield; a brother-in-law, Stan Nelson of Waterford, CT; 2 nieces and 3 nephews. Family and friends are invited to attend visiting hours on Tuesday, July 18th from 4-7PM at Forastiere Smith Funeral Home, 220 North Main St., East Longmeadow. Doug’s funeral service will be held on Wednesday, July 19th from the funeral home at 8:45AM followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial in St. Mary’s Church, Longmeadow at 10AM. Burial will follow in Longmeadow Cemetery. Donations in Doug’s memory may be made to Hospice of Western and Central Massachusetts, 1325 Springfield St., Feeding Hills, MA 01030 or Wernick Adult Day Health Care Center, 770 Converse St., Longmeadow, MA 01106.
