Marion Fay Loughman

Longmeadow – Marion Fay (Mercier) Loughman, 89, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother passed away on February 14, 2017. She was born in Springfield to the late Leon and Marjorie (Crane) Mercier on October 8, 1927. She was a graduate of Holy Name High School in Chicopee and Our Lady of the Elms College. She enriched her education attending the University of Bridgeport, University of Massachusetts and University of Connecticut. Marion was a much loved and respected Biology Teacher at Chicopee High School for over 29 years. She was a member of Holy Name and Elms Alumni Associations, Retired Massachusetts Teachers and the National Education Associations. A communicant of St. Mary’s Church in Longmeadow and a member of the choir. She was a former member of the Diocesan Choir. Marion volunteered as a Senior Reader at Center School for the first and second grades. She was a member of the College Club of Springfield and the First Friday Andovers. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her loving husband of 46 years, Gerald Loughman in 1994 and her brother, Robert Mercier. She leaves her 6 children, Anne Lizak and her husband Paul of Ludlow, Christopher Loughman and his wife Kathy of East Longmeadow, Maura Loughman-Bull and her husband Arthur of East Longmeadow, John Loughman of Longmeadow, Robert Loughman and his wife Maryanne of East Longmeadow, and Jeanne Loughman-Macey and her husband Christopher of Feeding Hills; 17 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Family and friends are invited to attend visiting hours on Tuesday, February 21st from 4-7PM at Forastiere Smith Funeral Home, 220 North Main Street, East Longmeadow. Marion’s funeral will be held on Wednesday, February 22nd from the funeral home at 9:45AM followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM in St. Mary’s Church, Longmeadow at 11AM.
