Violet M. St. Marie

SPRINGFIELD – Violet M. St. Marie, 82, passed away on July 19, 2017. Born in Springfield, MA on July 1, 1935, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Mafalda (Bartolucci) O’Connor. Violet graduated from Mercy Hospital School of Nursing in 1956 and worked as a registered nurse at Baystate Medical Center, Wesson and Women’s for many years before retiring in 1996. She loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren, and was their # 1 fan at their sporting events. She also enjoyed gardening, vacationing at their summer home in Cape Cod and exercising at the East Longmeadow Senior Center. Violet was a communicant of Mary, Mother of Hope and was a member of the Women’s Club. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her brother Joseph O’Connor. To cherish her memory, she leaves her loving husband Robert St. Marie of Springfield; sister Maureen Shea and her husband Thomas; children Robert St. Marie and Sue Poirier, Michael St. Marie and his wife Kim, Kathleen and her husband Jerry “GA” Hyland, Debra DiFiore, Daniel St. Marie and his wife Kristen, and Joseph St. Marie and his wife Sherry; cherished grandchildren Adrienne, Nicole, Shawn, William, Abigail, Caroline, Jacob and Charlotte St. Marie, Jessica, Christina, Michaela, and Alyssa Hyland, Renee and Andrew DiFiore, and Arman and Jordan Setian; great grandchildren Gianna and Isabella Polastry and several loving nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held on Monday, July 24, 2017 from 4-7 PM at Forastiere Smith Funeral Home, 220 North Main Street, East Longmeadow, MA. Funeral services will be Tuesday, July 25, 2017 beginning at 9:45 AM at the funeral home followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 11 AM at Mary, Mother of Hope Church, 840 Page Blvd, Springfield. Burial will be at 1 PM at the Massachusetts Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery in Agawam. Memorial contributions in Violet’s name may be made to Mary, Mother of Hope Church or to a charity of one’s choice.
